NJ Juniors Raise Funds for Judy Devlin Fund
Age does not matter when it comes to charity. Highschool seniors Viswanith Nair and Jason Zhan put their heads together and decided to give back to the sport they both loved. Badminton. Together they planned, networked and consulted to put together a charity tournament that would raise much needed funds for the JUDY DEVLIN FUND managed by the Northeast Badminton Association. This fund has assisted juniors and adult players alike with funding for international tournaments from cash assistance to sponsoring uniforms for the Northeast Pan American team when they competed in Acapulco, Mexico.
A check for $3500 was handed to Beth Sopka, current Secretary of the Northeast Badminton Association during the Junior Open Regionals held in Pinebrook, NJ
“We want to give something back, and we have learned a lot from hosting the tournament and hope it will help others in their journey too” -Vish
Together with NEBA’s director-at -large for juniors Michele Cruz as a consultant, they plan to hold a series of charity events and developmental junior tournaments hoping it will encourage more participation with more affordable entry fees and accessibility.
