Yonex Northeast Closed Regional Championships
Northeast regional junior players came out strong to support the closed regionals. Held in fairly new gym, South Jersey Indoor Sports Center was host for 2 days for the competitive players in the region. With just over 115 players and 297 matches overall, it took the whole regions effort to pull it off.
The BS U13 and BS U11 kicked of the 1st day matches. Welcoming old players and so many new faces as well which bodes well for the growth of the sport.
The tournament was also an opportunity to do in-person evaluations for umpires and scorekeepers. Cora Tanuwidjaja, National referee and National level 1 umpire came out to help the Northeast build their base of technical officials and volunteers which is sorely needed at this time. After finishing the pilot umpire online course, presented by Yi Wang (National Referee and National level 1 umpire), candidates were given the opportunity to be evaluated and submit their tests as part of the requirement to be a USA Regional umpire. Happy to say, we welcome our new technical officials to the fold!
Yonex strings and keychains were also given away as raffle prizes to 36 participants via draw and following NEBA on IG
All in all, it was a good weekend of getting back into the spirit of competition and meeting up with old friends and making new friends. Till the next regionals! Congratulations to all participants, winners and parents
